The story of Tails and the trolls blossoms into an epic filled with intrigue, murder, sex, betrayal and triumph - and this is all in the first few chapters. Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny are there and in love. Mario and Luigi show up and murder their parents. The “trolls” were actually part of a larger organization of trolls seeking power. If it stopped there, it may have been worth a laugh on some forums but ultimately would have been a footnote of internet history.īut Tails Gets Trolled didn’t stop there. The grammar is brutal and the non-sequiturs ( Knuckles waking up in a drunken stupor next to Donkey Kong comes to mind) are bafflingly hilarious. Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog gets bullied by some mean teens and then he, Sonic, and Shadow argue about how best to deal with them until it ends with Shadow viciously murdering the trolls. At first, the comic is bizarre and very funny, in a "look at this crap" kind of way. Tails Gets Trolled started in 2011 on the DeviantArt account of a user named Lazerbot. It’s also a legendarily “bad” piece of fanfiction, perhaps only less well-known than My Immortal, complete with what looks like a poorly disguised self-insert narrative from a dork fantasizing about getting back at his trolls, but it’s so much more than that.

One could say that Tails Gets Trolled is a long-running webcomic series starring the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog and seemingly every animated pop-culture character to ever exist, but it’s so much more than that. Trying to describe Tails Gets Trolled in a short amount of space is nigh impossible. Considering the scope of things on the internet, this is no small feat. In September 2020, YouTuber Cybershell released a video chronicling the history of Tails Gets Trolled, which also gained several hundred thousand views.Here is genuinely nothing on the internet like Tails Gets Trolled. The comic is also the origin of the Unsettled Tom meme, which gained popularity in March 2019. In May 2018, a PCP University lecture for the comic was posted on YouTube, which received several hundred thousand views.

The comic has been documented on TV Tropes and has a wiki dedicated to it. This lead to the official return of the series as a collaborative project, with Lazerbot and his brother/co-writer Embergram continuing to write more pages for the fan volunteers to draw out, and Lazerbot occasionally contributing his own pages as well.Īs of December 2021, Tails Gets Trolled is ongoing, with the 25th chapter currently being released. However, it would make a comeback in 2019 when fans of Tails Gets Trolled got in contact with Lazerbot and offered to help out with drawing the 23rd chapter. The comic went on an indefinite hiatus in 2017, after 22 chapters and an unfinished script of Chapter 23. This eventually became the official website, as new pages are no longer being posted on DeviantArt. The first of these sites was, then later after the former site was abandoned. Several fan-made websites have also popped up to host the series outside of DeviantArt. On August 4, 2012, Lazerbot's DeviantArt account was hacked, and he began posting the comic on his new account, UltimateLazerbot, and llTailsGetsTrolledll beginning in 2017. Meanwhile, users on the Something Awful forums produced fan art of the comic (examples shown below). Later, a new YouTube channel, ultimatetailsgetstrolled, was made to continue the reading of the comic after the owner of the original channel stopped updating. On March 25th, the YouTube channel tailsgetstrolled released a reading of the comic, gaining over 100,000 views (shown below).
Users on the forum began to mock the comic due to its perceived poor quality, but later found an earnest appreciation for the series.
On February 18th, 2012, a post about the comic was posted to the Something Awful forums by user Nunez. The comic rapidly gained infamy after it was discovered by Something Awful users. On October 10th, 2011, DeviantArt user Lazerbot uploaded the first page of "Tails Gets Trolled."
